( votes)When it comes to bikepacking, we see a lot of new equipment hitting our shelves. Gadgets, which people seem to take on adventures, seem to be very popular at the minute, and lots of companies are creating new things.
One thing we came across recently is the Bikepacking Pulley System. This is a great way of storing goods when on an adventure, and it is very light and packable.
The main question is, gimmick or actually quite useful? Today, we will be discussing just that.
What Is The Bikepacking Pulley System?
The bikepacking pulley system is a way to help store your bags when stopped, or it can be used to tie your bike up in certain situations.
It’s a unique device but is great for keeping you organized. It’s also pretty good when it comes to creative repairs.
What Did We Like About The Bikepacking Pulley System?
Let’s start with discussing what we like about the bikepacking pulley system. These are all the reasons why we think you might need it in your bikepacking kit.
Convenient
Being able to hang things is a massive convenience. Not only when you are camping but also in general.
I personally found hanging bags helpful when packing, as well as food bags and rubbish bags. Just makes it simpler and easier.
Packable
The pulley system is very easy to pack and can either hide away in a bag or even be tied to a bag. It won’t take up very much space and weighs next to nothing. I quite like to hang it off the front handlebar bag. Then, it’s really easy to access too.
Multi Use
Although most people see this as a pulley for hanging goods when camping or even staying in a hotel, it can do much more.
You can use it to strap bags down tightly, repair some goods, wrap clothing, and much more. I have seen someone help hang their tarp with a bikepacking pulley.
One of the best uses I found was hanging clothes out to dry. After a long day of riding in poor weather conditions it made life much easier being able to hang my lycra like on a washing line and let it dry in the wind or above a radiator in a hotel.
Cheap
For such a handy piece of kit, the bikepacking pulley system is very cheap. It’s super easy to use and such a great gadget for next to no money needing to be spent. They come in around $5, and that’s often including delivery.
What We Didn’t Like About The Bikepacking Pulley System?
It’s always good to discuss the bad alongside the good, and here’s what we didn’t like about the pulley system.
Not Always Needed
Although very handy, it’s not always needed. I feel if you are doing a lot of camping then it’s ideal for taking and you will find a lot of uses for it. If you are not camping, then it might not be worth taking.
Learning How To Put It Away
It can be quite challenging to get the pulley away properly. You have to be neat and organized.
We recommend wrapping it around something and making sure it’s really tight that works the best.
My Favorite Ways To Use It When Bikepacking
There’s a lot of ways the bikepacking pulley comes in handy but my favorite ways to use it are as below.
Hanging When Camping
The first place I like to use it is when it comes to hanging goods when camping. Being able to hang food, rubbish and even your bags goes such a long way to staying organized and keeping goods clean.
Drying Clothes
As mentioned before the most used way I have found with the pulley is making a washing line which I can hang clothes on to dry. It’s easy and convenient and just helps things dry nice and quickly inside and outside.
Strapping Bags Tight
Finally the last way is strapping bags tight. Not only is it great when it comes to hanging goods but being able to secure other bags goes a long way too.
A couple of wraps on a swaying saddlebag makes such a big difference.
Is It Worth Buying?
The bikepacking pulley system is a unique gadget for adventure cycling. It comes in handy when it comes to staying organized and just has a lot of uses.
For $5 and weighing next to nothing, it’s definitely worth investing in. There is always a risk it might just sit in your kit and do nothing too.
