( votes)Working on your bike can be just as much fun as riding it. Once you get confident on the tools and have everything you need, what’s to say you can’t build your next bike yourself? That’s how many people start, and some even end up opening their own shops.
At Bike Test Reviews, we’re lucky enough to have tried a lot of tools, and as soon as we hear about new products, we jump at the chance to try them. We recently heard about a wall-mounted bike stand and couldn’t resist ordering it to review.
In this article, were going to be speaking about:
Why Might You Want A Bike Stand?
There’s a huge number of reasons you might want a bike repair stand, and we believe if you’re undertaking any work on your bike, it will come in handy. Here’s what we love about having a bike stand:
Protects It
The first thing to mention is how a stand protects your bike. It stops it from falling over, which is an easy way to get a bent derailleur hanger or some nice scratches. Being up high stops it from anything falling on it too.
Easy On The Back
The second thing to mention is how much easier it is on the back when you have a bike stand. If you’re building a bike and have to bend down for hours through the day, it just leaves you feeling uncomfortable.
Easy To Run The Drivetrain
When you have the bike in the air, it’s much easier to use the drivetrain. It means you can run the chain and spin the wheels freely without it getting stuck or caught. This makes jobs like indexing your gears easy.
Keeps The Bike Balanced
With a stand, it can be easier to keep the bike balanced. A lot of cyclists lean their bikes up against the wall or flip them. It’s so challenging to work on in this position, and it just falls over all the time.
The ERFO Wall-Mounted Bike Stand Review
When it comes to telling you about this bike, the best way to do this is to break it down and tell you our thoughts.
Was It Easy To Install?
Unlike a typical stand, this one took a little bit more installation. The kit comes with four bolts and wall plugs, which you must use to install it across to the wall. It doesn’t take long to install, and once on does offer a very secure base for a bike to be held upright.
Did It Work?
The first question we had to ask was, did it work as a bike stand? Surprisingly it was much better than we first originally thought. Being so compact and keeping the bike so close to the wall, we were concerned that getting behind it or running the drivetrain might be difficult, but it was fine.
It was easy to clamp the bike in using the quick release and was even adjustable for different sizes of bikes with a single screw adjuster. It takes seconds to adjust and works for classic bikes with thin tubing or aero bikes with larger frames.
Regarding the protective pads that hold the bike, although we wouldn’t worry too much about them damaging a frame, we did think they would benefit from being softer. Still, we typically always use a cloth for extra protection.
One feature we really liked, which we didn’t realize it could do, was it had the ability to fold upwards. This was excellent as being fairly tight on space, it meant you didn’t end up walking past and knocking your head with it.
One thing we were not so sure about was it was difficult to angle it at first. You can remove a pin in the center, angle it and tighten it up easily if required. We feel it is designed to be used flat though.
How Does It Compare To A Typical Bike Stand?
Compared to a typical bike stand, it feels much sturdier and offers a pleasant experience. It takes up much less space and packs away much smaller than most people’s normal fold-away stand.
It did lack compared to a normal stand because it’s not portable, it’s much harder to work on both sides of the bike at once, and you can’t adjust the height. Overall it is limited compared to a normal stand, but we can understand that.
Was It Good Quality?
For the money, it was incredible quality. It did exactly what we expected and more. Everything works as it should, and nothing on it feels flimsy at all. It is made of metal and plastic, but it all feels very strong and able.
Was It Good Value For Money?
The wall-mounted bike stand comes in at $$ (check price here), which is an incredible price. You can’t buy a normal stand for less than around $70.
As far as value for money goes, we highly rate it and feel it is worth anyone’s money who wants to make working on their bike easier.

Our Verdict

Since I installed my ERFO, I have used it 90% of the time, but I still require a normal stand for tasks such as cleaning. It’s best used alongside a normal stand if you can, but if I had to choose between the ERFO and a normal stand, I would go with EFRO.
