An Automatic and Portable Solution to Tire Pumps
The Xiaomi Automatic Air Compressor is a USB-powered inflator that connects to your valve like any standard pump and continuously sends a constant airflow to the tires. It relieves you from manually pumping your tires to your preferred tire pressure.
It comes with a neat bag that stores the air compressor and an inner pouch for your adapter for the valve types and balls. You get a standard USB Cable that can power the compressor to pump 3-5 times depending on the tire type, width, and desired air pressure.
It’s compatible with Presta and Schrader valves and can quickly pump both faster than you think. It’s a portable inflator solution that becomes a time saver for those cyclists that dislike manually pumping tires.
It’s become my home-bound inflator that you can use to be time efficient and multitask on other tasks while you perform other bike maintenance tasks.
It features a pressure display indicator to ensure you get the desired air pressure. Unlike most traditional pumps, the pumping motion can provide an inaccurate air pressure indicator, and this automatic air compressor displays a continuous air pressure feed with the provided screen so you can stop whenever it reaches your preferred pressure.
The airflow is so good that I may have miscalculated it to the point that my tubes blew up twice. I strongly advise you to pump less than you want since the airflow is consistent enough to pump to a lower pressure without much compromise.
Most traditional pumps can be inaccurate as you move upwards and downwards. This automatic compressor sends a constant air pressure that has left my tires rock solid at around 18-20 P.S.I.
Drawbacks
Though this air compressor is compact, it may not be the best fit for Presta valves. Despite both valves functioning satisfactorily, I’ve noticed that it pairs better with Schrader valves. When attached to a Presta valve, the display can show as inactive, and a faint sound of escaping air can be heard.
It’s not a quiet device that’s easily heard from afar. If you live in a noise-sensitive area, I wouldn’t recommend it. In addition, it can move a lot, to the point that the shakiness can affect its adjustment to the valves. It can be inconvenient since the hose length is too short, leaving the body shaking and dangling.
What I’ve done to solve this is to find a good spot between the spokes to keep it still or rotate the wheel to 6:00 o’clock to lay the compressor flat on the ground.
I wouldn’t recommend it for tubeless installation since the airflow is not ideal to successfully seat the tire. Unlike manual air compressors, which can deliver the sharp, swift burst of air necessary for this process, this automatic compressor falls short.
